The Field Trip Project

A partnership project with Lancashire Wildlife Trust, offering creative workshops for local residents. The Field Trip Project is an opportunity for adult participants to work with artist Kate Bufton to develop creative skills and explore local natural sites in a relaxed and sociable sessions.

We run a creative walking club, meeting at the Turnpike every fortnight. The walks are friendly and fun and use different creative techniques to explore our surroundings.

The Turnpike Centre Garden Walk and Workshop

Friday 30 July

11am start at Bickershaw and plant-guided walk back to the Civic Square.

12.30 - 1.30 balm making workshop in the Turnpike Centre Garden.

Join Artist Frances Disley for this event starting at nearby Bickershaw Country Park and ending at the new Turnpike Centre Garden, a space for recovery and renewal on Leigh Civic Square.

The workshop will be inspired by plants found at nearby Bickershaw Country Park, and ending at Leigh's Civic Square with the opportunity to explore how to turn these plants into balms to support wellbeing.

LEIGH CIVIC SQUARE, PENNINGTON FLASH, STANDISHGATE - WIGAN (CASTLEFIELD NEW ART SPACES)

Presented in various locations across Wigan and Leigh this series of artworks have been designed with software designers to create immersive artworks to be activated by the public.

The series of artworks in Touch AR address the past, the strange present, and times yet to come. From the Wigan Borough's legacy of industry and coal mining to the recent renewal of local wetlands through the return of extinct, native species - there are signals for hope.

The Touch AR app requires you to use fingertip touch to explore new artworks with your screen devices and trigger the animations and sounds.

Turnpike Tots - Teddy Bear's Picnic

Suitable for little artists aged 0-5yrs and their grownups.

Join Tots artist Tina for some fun in the sunshine at Pennington Hall Park. Each session includes some dance and movement exploring some of our favourite stories and characters, as well as making, drawing and playing.

To keep safe, each family bubble of up to three people is allocated a waterproof sheet to sit on, socially distanced from other bubbles. You will be provided with art materials. You can bring your own blanket/cushions to get more comfortable if you like, and your own snacks!

Witchy Woodland Workshops

Join our Witchy Woodland Workshops this summer, as part of the project These Lancashire Women are Witches in Politics. We will be foraging for materials, sounds and movements to create costumes and develop a wild parade. We will explore Pennington Flash and make regalia with clay, weaving and found materials, as well as work with a professional actor who will empower us through actions and voice as we invent our parade.

The young people will work with three amazing artists  to create artwork and products which explore climate change, sustainability and social justice, and then work together to create their own pop up shop!
