Launching October 2020:
Let's fill the town with art by children and young people!
Since 2019, local children and young people aged 6-18 years have been supported to become commissioners and collaborators with professional artists, developing new artwork which explores the three themes 'Identity', 'Place' and 'The Future'. Outcomes from the projects are an astonishing collection of artworks that speak of young people’s aspirations for their future and a re-imagining of their potential as citizens. Local organisations and companies are invited to help these young people to populate physical and virtual spaces in Leigh with their resulting imagery, words and music from October 2020 - March 2021.
How has the artwork been created?
Young people have commissioned projects, drawing from our pool of Associate Artists. Throughout the commissions, the artists have ensured that the voices of the young participants are embedded into the design and development of the work, as well in planning for showcasing the projects’ outcomes.
Creative projects have been developed with children and young people within local secondary and primary schools as well as with children attending The Turnpike after-school and at weekends.
Why should local businesses take part in US HERE NOW?
Whilst the creativity and imagination of young people was always embedded into this project, the coronavirus lockdown this summer has impacted on our participants in a profound way. US HERE NOW is a unique opportunity to be part of a campaign which champions and empowers young people - uplifting the local community through high quality, positive artwork. We are sure that many local businesses will share the project's ethos and mission, and want to join us!
How can local businesses get involved?
If a local organisation or company has display space available in a public area, then they can apply to become an US HERE NOW Campaign Partner. We are particularly interested in hearing from businesses who have interior or exterior wall space, digital advertising space, or window space which can be viewed even during further lockdowns/precautions due to coronavirus. To apply, get in touch with details of the space available, and the duration it could be used between October 2020 and March 2021. US HERE NOW young participants will select and curate the final displays.
Is there a cost involved?
Thanks to our funding from The Ragdoll Foundation and The Deal, we are able to cover installation and artwork production costs. In return, businesses will have high quality artwork in their spaces and their logo included on print and digital media relating to the project.
