Jonathan Baldock: The Extruder!
We had a fantastic session today with artist Jonathan Baldock. First he showed us some images of the exhibitions and artwork he has made. It was exciting to see how his practice uses humour and bold theatrical designs. He talked about how he uses ceramics in his work, sometimes as props or other objects within a larger scene.
Jonathan then showed us how to use The Extruder. This is a piece of equipment that squeezes the clay into long thin tubes, making it easier to create three-dimensional structures. After a quick demonstration, we all had a go at using the extruder and then using the clay tubes to create our own vase-like structures.
The process was really satisfying, and it was great to achieve some really spectacular results in a relatively short space of time.
