Artist Niki Colclough has been working with members of the local community to explore walking as a creative practice. Niki has designed a process-led project that will unfold slowly depending upon the people she meets and where they take her. There is an ever-growing working group for the project who are testing how creative walking can be used to maintain both physical and mental wellbeing, as well as offering a way to connect with a people and place in ways that they wouldn’t have ordinarily encountered. Using psycho-geography, observation, conversation and movement - our mutual aim is to uncover the overlooked and celebrate the narratives and culture that already exists in Leigh.
Niki has established a local walking group, meeting fortnightly to explore different creative approaches to walking. She will also be presenting three live walks during the forthcoming Wigan Arts Festival (30th July - 4th August 2021) details for booking to be announced shortly.
We run a creative walking club, meeting at the Turnpike every fortnight. The walks are friendly and fun and use different creative techniques to explore our surroundings.
Forthcoming dates are:
Wednesday 7th July 5.30pm - 7pm
Wednesday 21st July 5.30pm - 7pm
Wednesday 4th August 5.30pm - 7pm
The walks are free to attend. If you would like to book a place, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call: 07563663917
About Niki Colclough
Niki is an interdisciplinary practitioner exploring the role of art and artists in society. She uses artistic thinking and processes to open up dialogues, often working collaboratively in a practice that sits at the intersection of art, society and wellbeing.
Central to Niki's practice is the theme of care and within this, a connection to the idea of place - considering the social, physical and emotional landscapes we inhabit.
