In the Family of the Carbons

20 January - 3 March 2018

In the Family of the Carbons is a new exhibition by Nick Crowe and Ian Rawlinson that explores the physical and cultural properties of coal and the impact of our carbon based economies. Using hand carving, weaving, sound and video, the exhibition brings together a selection of compelling and visually rich works, many of which have never been shown before in the UK. The exhibition includes Song for Coal, a monumental video installation created with Opera North, as well as a series of sculptures carved from cannel coal, extracted from the Alexandra Open Cast Mine near Wigan.
